It is going to take a bit of work to figure out how to pay for it, because the church really does not have any excess funds and it is going to be very expensive to pay for air conditioning replacement in NYC when you are dealing with a unit the size of the one required for this building. It is not as though we can really do without an air conditioner however. The worship hall has about half a dozen huge stained glass windows and when the sun shines through them, it really heats that room up. It is like a huge solar powered oven, or in a familiar example like leaving your car in a burning parking lot and coming back to it after a few hours. It is going to be blazing hot inside that vehicle and you are going to burn your legs if you are wearing shorts.
So we have to figure out how to do it. It would be great if Mr. Wells was still able to help us out, he had spent years in the Navy working in mechanical systems and he was able to keep that air conditioner unit running without any great difficult. It would require a few hundred dollars worth of parts, but he would never charge us for the work and was very happy to be useful. Of course he is now in his seventies and no longer ambulatory. In fact his mind does not really work as well as it should any more and he could not even really tell the rest of us what we are supposed to do to fix the thing. So the only real option is to find someone who is willing to give us a good price on a whole new air conditioning system.
